How to make a numb mouth from the dentist go away quicker?

Posted by admin on April 17th, 2010 and filed under mouth | 1 Comment »

I got a few fillings in my teeth about an hour and a half ago and my mouth is still numb. The dentist said it should only take about half an hour…

It’s slowly going away, but it’s kind of a painful numbness. Is there anything I can do to make it leave quicker? It’s uncomfortable and I’m starving!

Just go ahead and eat. Be careful not to bite yourself and be sure that the food is not too hot. If it’s liquid, don’t drink it unless you can stick your finger in it comfortably.

It would have very little effect at all, but if you apply some heat and do "light exercise," which means wiggle your jaw all around and/or makes faces in the mirror, you might increase blood flow to the area which could help make the numbness go away a little faster.

How do I stop my mouth from burning after eating a pepper?

Posted by admin on April 15th, 2010 and filed under mouth | 6 Comments »

I just ate a pepper (wasn’t supposed to be in my food from Chipotle). Anyway, it’s been 10 minutes and my mouth is still on fire.

Don’t drink water…even ice water….it will just spread the oil from the pepper around your mouth. Try some milk or better yet, a banana. Either of those will help to neutralize the "heat."

How do you stop your mouth from drying up before going on stage?

Posted by admin on April 13th, 2010 and filed under mouth | 5 Comments »

I am 22, and just started amateure acting. I had an audition and I found my mouth totally dried up and I had the need to clear my throat over and over. Luckily despite this the audition went well, but it was my first time, any suggestions to help me out in the future?

Good suggestions above. Here’s another one you can try right now. Pretend that you have a chewy caramel in your mouth. Chew on it for a while; don’t forget to use your tongue to get the caramel off your teeth.

You’ve probably noticed a lot of saliva has been produced. That’s because saliva is the first digestive enzyme, and it’s triggered by the body when we chew.

How do you prevent getting mouth ulcers?

Posted by admin on April 11th, 2010 and filed under mouth | 11 Comments »

I suffer from ulcers terribly every few months. I’m fit, heathly eat a well balanced diet, but every so often I get them and about 4 or 5 at a time in my mouth. I think it may be due to stress or lack of sleep as we have a new born, but i may be wrong. Is there any way I can prevent these. I obviously use bonjela when I get them.

Treat any you have with very hot & very salty mouth washes. Hurts like hell but will clear them up quickly. I’d suggest looking at changing to a toothpaste that doesn’t contain Sodium Lauryl Sulphate (foaming agent) as this has been found to be the guilty constituent behind many cases of mouth ulcers. There is a make called Hollytrees that doesn’t contain SLS & you can get this in your health food shop. I’m sure this will sort your recurrent problem out.

Flightless Bird, American Mouth by Iron & Wine

I was a quick wet boy
Diving too deep for coins
All of your street light eyes
Wide on my plastic toys
Then when the cops closed the fair
I cut my long baby hair
Stole me a dog-eared map
And called for you everywhere

Have I found you?
Flightless bird
Jealous, weeping
Or lost you?
American mouth
Big pill looming

Now I’m a fat house cat
Nursing my sore blunt tongue
Watching the warm poison rats
Curl through the wide fence cracks
Pissing on magazine photos
Those fishing lures thrown in the cold and clean
Blood of Christ mountain stream

Have I found you?
Flightless bird
Grounded, bleeding
Or lost you?
American mouth
Big pill, stuck going down.

I instantly fell in love with this song the moment I heard it in the Twilight movie because it is such a sad, meaningful and poetic song.
This is the song playing during Edward Cullen and Bella Swan prom dance.
It is track #11 of the Twilight soundtrack.

Why do cats smell your mouth when they are near your face?

Posted by admin on April 9th, 2010 and filed under mouth | 14 Comments »

I know this may seem like a strange question but I’ve always wondered why. Whenever I go near any of my cats faces or they are near mine, seems almost like the first thing they do is smell your mouth or your breath.

Cats have an amazing sense of smell. They can tell where you’ve been, who you’ve been with, how long ago it was, what you ate, etc. She just wants to know what you’ve had to eat, probably.

What is the difference between mouth wash and flouride?

Posted by admin on April 7th, 2010 and filed under mouth | 2 Comments »

i used to use scope (big green mouth wash acidy stuff) but also theres pink stuff called flouride. whats the difference, should i use both? should i switch off maybe each day?

Different mouth rinses do different things.
Fluoride is a rinse that aids in strengthening your enamel. Meaning, if you have a weak spot in your enamel that is on its way to becoming a cavity, you may be able to remineralize that area by using a fluoride rinse (such as ACT).
However, antiseptic rinses (such as Scope or Listerine) are good for killing bacteria in your mouth and making your breath fresh.
Since they both do different things, I wouldn’t say one is better than the other.
If you’re going to use only one kind of rinse, I would recommend fluoride. But, if you’re able to use both, I would recommend this: Use the antisceptic rinse in the morning after brushing. And, use the fluoride rinse at night just before bed. (When doing this, don’t rinse… just spit the fluoride rinse out. Let what is left coat your teeth overnight to help remineralize any weak spots)
