My mother is 46,has hyper thyroid and has recently undergone a topical corticosteroid treatment.Since then she has had white patches on her tongue, white spots on the inside cheeks and a whitish deep pocket like area where the lower cheek meets the gum line around the lower jaw. When felt by the tongue an uneasiness is felt. The physician diagnosed them to be thrush. Are they actually thrush? Can thrush affect all these areas? Please advice.
Yes thrush is common on the tongue (a furry white appearance) and back of the throat. They are the most common places but it can also be in the vestibule (between your lips and teeth) and inside of cheeks. If you want to look it up on medical sites the proper name is oral candiasis.
It’s easily treated with oral antibiotics but it may be recurrent due to the corticosteroids (the fungi thrive off them). Chat to her doctor about managing it.
Edit: i mean oral antifungals not antibiotics

my baby is six month old now. he is lealthy with no problem. but when he was two months, i notices some thick white thrushes on his mouth specially on his tongue. i used Nistatine to clean them and then they gone. But i was just reading an article which was about autistic babies with candida and yeast infections. I do not know if these thrushes was also a kind of thoses candia or not? please help.
it’s very common for babies to get thrush. my daughter (4 years old) had thrush two or three times. She doesn’t have autism. The autism awareness issue is twofold. On one side, it’s excellent that doctor’s and parents are becoming aware of this very real problem. On the other side, because it is now being studied so much and becuase there is so much interest doctors are finding almost every POSSIBLE link and before these things are proven or disproven they are fed to the media and then to parents, causing parents to worry over nothing. Doctor’s don’t know what causes autism. They are grasping at straws at this point and so is the media. Any chance of a link and everyone jumps on it. Try not to worry, it is very likely that autism isn’t caused by thrush.
My Mom Took my Sick baby to the hospital she had a white thrush inside her mouth from the nipple of the bottle, the doctor said try putting a bigger holes,so,the doctor gave me some kind of medication for the thrush,so am givin my baby this stuff now,the doctor said wait like 10 minutes and give her the bottle, and if she doesn’t take come back the next day for more info.
I remember your first question, which was baby won’t take bottle and why is he/she crying?? right?? take baby back to the doctor. My daughter had thrush and it is painful, this is why baby won’t stop crying and won’t eat…continue the medication like doctor says, I don’t have a clue why you would put bigger holes in the nipple, unless to make it easier for baby to eat when they suck because it hurts. dont puncture the nipples just buy ones with bigger size holes. sterilze everything, nipples, rings, bottles, even new ones have to be sterilized. never use any thing to cook in or for anything but babies bottles, dont touch the nipples before putting in babies mouth and if it does, start with a new one. pacifiers especially.
ask doctor about a malox( I dont think i spelled that right but its the white chalky stuff for a stomach ache) and benadryl mixture. the pharmacist will be the only one to mix it at the right proportions so that you can swab babies mouth/and gums using a cotton ball, so that they can eat while the medication begins to work. It helps with the pain DO NOT TRY AND MIX THIS YOURSELF!!!!! ASK YOUR DOCTOR. They may have something different now that will allow baby to eat without pain. always make sure everything that touches babies mouth is clean….i hope this helps

http://www.MouthYeastInfection.com – Women and men (and babies and children) can get yeast infections in the mouth; this is called “thrush.”
Thrush can occur from performing oral sex on someone who has a genital yeast infection. It can occur when yeast is transmitted to the mouth via thumb-sucking, nail biting or chewing on objects that have yeast on them.
It may occur after taking potent antibiotics, which can wipe out the beneficial bacteria that normally keep yeast in check. It may occur in immunocompromised people, including those undergoing cancer chemotherapy, using steroid medicines or infected with HIV. Diabetics are also more likely to get yeast infections, including thrush.
Oral yeast can be easily diagnosed by examining the mouth., It usually forms a thick, white plaque on the tongue or sides of the mouth that can be wiped off. It is treated by using antifungal rinses or lozenges, available by prescription. If you think you have an oral yeast infection please check out: http://www.MouthYeastInfection.com

What else could cause someone’s mouth to burn like when you eat a piece of toast and you scrape it on your mouth but it’s painful on the tongue, cheeks, and roof of the mouth and burns with carbonated beverages like sodas? Does it take a while for them to cottage cheesy like or sometimes they aren’t?
I dont know what you mean when you say does it take a while to get cottage cheesy… do you have any other mouth sores that are like this? If so see a doctor, I have experienced similar symptoms as to what you describe but they usually go away in 2 – 4 days and i believe is caused by some form of topical bacterial infection of the mouth, I could be wrong.. other times I have had this happen is when I ate food that was too hot and it burned my mouth, in either case update with how long u have had this and I may suggest calling your physician.
What is the best thing to prevent it? And is it called the same when adults get it? ooo and is there a home rimidy for it?
Thrush is caused by an overgrowth of yeast, usually caused by antibiotic therapy. If the baby is breastfeeding, this can be passed to mom’s nipples. Acidophilus is great for treating yeast, but you should consult with the baby’s pediatrician about treatment and ask them what you need to do to treat yourself if you’re breastfeeding. Otherwise, you’ll pass it right back to baby.
