I am ashamed to talk to people because of all the white guck in and on my mouth.

FYI,
find a physician who’ll treat the mouth infection. The fact that long term use of antibiotics does cause thrush is a proven fact.

Justin B Smith from Justin’s HIV Journal has been smoking since the age of 17. He is 29 years old so he has been smoking for about 12 years.

According to TheBody.com, people with HIV disease are more likely to smoke than healthy people. Smoking can interfere with normal lung function in healthy people. In people with HIV, smoking can make it more difficult to fight off serious infections. People with HIV disease are now living longer. Smoking and related problems can interfere with long term quality of life.

Smoking weakens the immune system. It can make it harder to fight off HIV-related infections. This is especially true for infections related to the lungs. Smoking can interfere with processing of medications by the liver. It can also worsen liver problems like hepatitis.

People with HIV who smoke are more likely to suffer complications from HIV medication than those who don’t. For example, those who smoke are more likely to experience nausea and vomiting from taking HIV medications. Smoking increases the risk of some long-term side effects of HIV disease and treatment. These include osteoporosis . HIV treatment slightly increases the risk of heart attack, but smoking is the major controllable risk factor for heart attacks or strokes.
Recent studies found that quitting smoking reduced heart attack risk in HIV patients more than other factors such as changes in medications.

People with HIV disease who smoke are more likely to develop several opportunistic infections related to HIV. They are more likely to develop thrush, oral hairy leukoplakia (whitish mouth sores), bacterial pneumonia, pneumocystis pneumonia. For women, smoking can increase the risk and severity of infection with human papillomavirus, this increases the risk of cervical cancer.

A recent study found that smoking among people with HIV was linked to a higher rate of death. This was true for current smokers and ex-smokers; the greatest increase in the risk of death — 60% — was for cardiovascular (heart) disease and some cancers.

She does not seem to have any discomfort. One thing i have noticed is a day before on her forhead and top of her head she has four bumps that look like a bite of somekind. i just wondered if these could be a sign of thrush also or something else?
well went to the Dr. She is cutting teeth so bad and chewing on things so hard that is why the inside of her mouth is sore. And the bumps are bites of somekind from being outside. i was told i cant use any kind of bug spray either.well thanks everyone for your answers!!!!

Sounds like 2 seperate things to me. Thrush and bites of some kind. I don’t think either is much to worry about, although the thrush will need treating

Hey there!

Yes, it’s possible to get oral thrush. The symptoms include white, cream coloured and/or yellow spots, sometimes slightly raised. If you scrape these spots they can bleed slightly and even leave little wounds in the mouth.

It’s caused by the yeast candida (present in about half of the population). It becomes a problem when it begins to multiply and thrive. This happens when it’s environment changes for its benefit. This can be caused from things such as taking antibiotics or some other forms of medications, suffer with high blood sugar from diabeties or even have a suppressed immune system.

You should visit the doctor if you suspect oral thrush – just rule out any other conditions – and they’ll provide either a pastille to suck or a mouthwash type preparation.

Hope this helps out. – Karen

More people get athlete’s foot than any other fungal infections. It can be really vexing, but it’s easy to control it and treated right away. The fungus that causes athlete’s foot is like those that cause jock itch and yeast infections. It breeds in closed, damp places and feeds on dead skin cells.

Walking bare foot in the shower at a gym and around the pools may increase your chances of getting athletes foot. Jock itch is a fungal infection in the groin that most men get from time to time. Women on the other hand may get yeast infections.

Which occurs when a fungus that that’s already in the body displaces the helpful bacterium that keeps it under control. The infection begins in the vagina but spreads if left untreated. If you are pregnant, taking anti-biotic or birth control pills. Then you are more likely to get an infection.

Thrush is a yeast infection in the mouth. It makes a white or yellow coating that may look like milk and is easy to scrape away, exposing raw, red skin. Babies frequently get thrush. People infected with AIDS or Cancer get infected more often.

Taking large doses of anti-biotics can also bring on Thrush. People who perspire a lot or who are over weight and likely to have folds of skin that will rub against each other are also prone to fungal infections.

i have tonsilitis and ive noticed some red patches and white patches on my tongue.. i think this could be thrush will my antibiotics for my tonsilitis get rid of the thrush too?

If you do have thrush, this is a fungal infection and need to be treated. The antibiotics you are taking for a possible bacterial infection will not cure a fungal infection. Instead you need an antifungal that will treat thrush. I have never heard of the "nil state liquid" the person mentioned above, but may that is in another country outside of the U.S. The typical treatment in the U.S. is either Diflucan or Nystatin. I hope you feel better.

My mother is ill and she has thrush of the mouth we have been refilling the plastic water bottles (spring water). Even though we wash them well more like rinse them out, I don’t feel we that we really get them clean and that is why my mother still has an ongoing yeast infection, (Thrush), which I feel is remaining bacteria in the bottle, is that possible?.

Contrary to the belief of the other poster, oral thrush happens frequently in people that have healthy immune systems…not always the immunocompromised. You do need to probably dispose of the water bottles. Candida albicans, the organism responsible for your mother’s grief, is not easily destroyed. Invest in some new water bottles, her and her health will totally appreciate you for it.

Make sure the toys/pacifiers are cleaned regularly, bottles, anything that goes in their mouth. My baby had it too, but I breastfeed. Once I started washing my nipples after each feeding it went away (he doesnt take a paci)…Sometimes you can’t avoid it, some babies are more prone to it. Check the mouth regularly too, because it can be painful if it moves to the throat. Sometimes rinsing the mouth with a little water after the feeding helps too.
