Can you get mouth sores with strep throat?

Recently, my sister was diagnosed with strep throat. She had a fever, headache, sore throat, vomiting – everything. The doctor gave her amoxicillin. She has now developed sores on the roof of her mouth and she is in A LOT of pain. Can you get mouth sores from strep throat, or is it caused by the medicine or something totally different?

Amoxicillin, like any medication, has possible adverse reactions. A less common one is stomatitis (mouth ulcers). Suggest to her that she report this to her prescriber. Stomatitis is treatable.

Yes…you can. When I was 24, I got strep throat which became Rhuematic Fever, if I remember correctly. It was Christmas 1995 and i had HORRIBLE fever and little white sores in my mouth. Doc gave me an antibiotic….I couldn’t eat or drink for the most part during that time – due in part to the sores…..

I lost 12 lbs during that week and a half.
