What is the best medicine to treat cotton mouth?

After some research and helpful people here on Yahoo! Answers, I have come to a conclusion that my betta fish is in the early stages of cotton mouth disease. I have been looking at several anti-bacterial medications that PetSmart sells (It is the only pet market nearby), and I do not know which one would work best to cure cotton mouth. I have been leaning towards Maracyn-2, but I’m not sure. What medication available at PetSmart does the best job at curing external cotton mouth?

The best treatment is to get some Melafix,Pimafix, or bettamax (only one do not mix medicines.). Remove your activated carbon from your filter, and then add the medicine on your next water change (less medicine is always better than too much, follow dosage as directed.) Raising the temperature a few degrees also helps speed up the recovery process, aquarium salt does this as well.

Now the best prevention to getting any disease is to do routine water changes and testing your water parameters monthly or when things do not look right. From now on make sure you do 25% water changes every week and do not overfeed your betta (remove uneaten food after 10 minutes.)

  2. melafix! its a all natural and isnt that hard on the fish. It also wont kill your good bacteria in you tank. while at petsmart get some aquarium salt. its cheap and the fish love it while they are healing.
