How do you keep a baby from getting thrush in their mouth…?

My little 2 month old had it really bad for a while, was on 2 different medicines, it went away a few weeks ago, and now is back…what am I doing wrong? I also thought only breast-fed babies got it?

Make sure the toys/pacifiers are cleaned regularly, bottles, anything that goes in their mouth. My baby had it too, but I breastfeed. Once I started washing my nipples after each feeding it went away (he doesnt take a paci)…Sometimes you can’t avoid it, some babies are more prone to it. Check the mouth regularly too, because it can be painful if it moves to the throat. Sometimes rinsing the mouth with a little water after the feeding helps too.

Nope any baby can get. To get rid of my babys I ended up having to buy new nipples for the bottles.

Usually found from bottles and nipples that aren’t cleaned well enough, and dried well enough.

Here’s a couple of websites that might help you…My son had thrush, but he only got it once. Bottle fed babies get it too. It’s just a yeast infection. My son had it when he was little too. He got it because he had been in the hospital on antibiotics.

You need to keep the nipples of the bottles and the pacifiers clean. Your best bet is to buy new ones if its really bad.

Me and my daughter both had it for about 3 weeks and it was terrible. I threw all of her old Binky’s out and bought new ones. I boiled everything !! all bottles, nipples, breast pump, U name it I boiled it (just to be on the safe side) I had 2 different kinds of nystatin and that didn’t work so the Dr gave her dyflucan ( i think) and that seemed to clear it up.. Now I’m very careful and I watch everything she puts in her mouth, and I make sure to buy new Binky’s about every 2 weeks and boil them before she uses them.

Babies are going to get it. But from the moment I brought my son home I always either gave him a small amount of water in a bottle to wash his mouth out or "brushed" his teeth and gums with the finger brush. When milk sets up in their mouths it can cause it sometimes too.

Boil anything that goes in their mouths for at least 20 minutes. Also my doctor told us (our son got it twice as well) it is from a babies immature immune system. We all have yeast but a baby’s immune system cannot fight it off when it grows. My son did the Nystatin, then gentian violet, finally Diflucan worked. My son had it around 4 months of age and hasn’t had it since. You can also do what someone else suggested, wipe out their mouths, tongue, gums, etc. after a feeding.
